Engineering Management Institute Are You Too Focused on the Wrong Thing in Your Engineering Career? jumped in, grabbed the canine, and pulled him to safety. What Are You Ignoring? Just as canine are really good at swimming, many engineers are really good at engineering, but at what expense? I actually have coached many engineers through the years, they usually tend to get so wrapped up with initiatives, clients, and deadlines that they ignore other issues, like their very own private development and their families. There is little question that in order to succeed as an engineer, you need to work onerous and be dedicated to your initiatives and your clients, but again, at what cost? Even if you do “catch the goose,” or end your project, there might be 10 extra waiting right behind it. So I ask you, what you are ignoring? How Will You Notice This and Make a Change? When you might be so centered on something, like this canine was, you tend to dam every thing else out. How will you get yourself out of this situation? For one thing, I hope this article will pressure you to examine where you might be spending your time and energy and whether you're doing so effectively. Secondly, ask individuals. Ask colleagues, pals, family members. Are there different issues that you should be specializing in? Maybe you need to delegate some of your project duties and take a course on public talking or business improvement? Maybe you need to attempt to go away the office early one day and have dinner with your family? My Challenge to You Consider this publish a problem to you to determine how one can begin to focus extra on the things that matter. Again, I am on no account saying that your engineering tasks don’t matterâ€"they do! However, they shouldn’t consume you completely.
